A doctor, who is on the fugitive list of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) for possessing fake academic credentials, recently returned to Nepal, met with Speaker of Parliament Onsari Magar and left the country dodging the police.
Sunil Sharma, managing director of Nobel Medical College, who is wanted for possessing a fake degree from the Bihar Intermediate Education Council, had been at large after the CIB arrested in the second week of June 33 doctors carrying counterfeit higher secondary certificates. Sharma had got the certificate in 1996 from BDBKS College, Forbesganj. Verification of the document by the CIB from the BIEC was found to be counterfeit.
Multiple sources at the CIB confirmed that Sharma’s certificate was fake. Bureau chief Deputy Inspector General of Police Nawaraj Silwal, however, declined to comment on the matter.
During the latest hunger strike of Dr Govinda KC, a team of doctors from private medical colleges had met Gharti on July 28, urging her not to address the demands of the fasting doctor. Doctors who attended the meeting with the Speaker confirmed Sharma’s presence.
CIB officials said they found after checking with the Immigration Department that he had left for Japan.
Press advisor to the Speaker Babin Sharma said they had not done a background check on the doctors since many of them who came to meet her were well known. “The issue on medical education was pertinent [during Dr Kr’s fast] and when the team approached to meet the Speaker we readily agreed,” said Sharma.
