During his meeting with the delegation of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) in Baluwatar, PM Dahal laid stress on national consensus to formulate new
laws, expedite post-quake reconstruction and implement and amend the constitution.
Stating that the media had played positive and progressive roles in various political movements in the past, PM Dahal said he expected similar role from the media to help forge national consensus.
Concluding the remaining tasks of the peace process and implementing the constitution are the most pressing issues now, said PM Dahal.
During the meeting, FNJ President Mahendra Bista brought to PM Dahal’s notice the role the media sector had played to bring about changes in the country and expressed hoped that the new government would support in modifying the laws that are necessary for the media policy.
“The government must do the needful to enforce minimum wages for working journalists,” said Bista.
“The government must ensure professional and physical security of journalists while making sure that the media industry sees healthy growth.”
FNJ General Secretary Ujir Magar extended congratulations and best wishes to PM Dahal on behalf of the FNJ and apprised him of the challenges faced by journalists. (PR)
