Former Communications Minister and Nepali Congress leader Minendra Rijal has said that bigger challenges lie ahead for women in journalism.

Speaking at a workshop and training programme on increasing gender sensitivity, Rijal said that the articles about women in Nepali media are sometimes unnecessarily sensationalised and hyped.

He asked journalists to be sensitive while writing news about women, stressing the need to prepare reports based on evidences so that credibility and sensitivity are not compromised. Some 40 participants were trained on issues ranging from self-defence, gender issues and feminism to photo journalism from gender perspective, impact of conflict and online journalism.
