What could a goat cost? Usually it sells for Rs 5-15 thousand. This could come as a surprise but a goat has been sold for around Rs 2 Lakhs in Dhading district.

Nawaraj Acharya, a farmer in Dhading has sold a goat for Rs 195,000. Acharya, a resident of Kewalpur VDC in Dhading started Boer goat farming after he established Bagmati Goat Seeds twelve years ago. Acharya currently earns upto Rs 60 Lakhs annually from this business.

Boer goats are believed to be healthy for people even with health problems because these breed of goats have white meat. This could be the reason behind the rise in its demand.

Local goats weigh upto 50 kilograms whereas Boer goats can weigh upto 90 kilograms.

According to Acharya, once he tried to go Europe to pay his debts before starting this business. Now, he has been earning well in Nepal. Currently, his farm houses more than 130 goats.
