Bogati was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre in Bansbari on Thursday where doctors carried out a heart operation on him. He was transferred to the Thapathali-based Norvic Hospital on Friday for the treatment of brain haemorrhage. Bogati’s last rites were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat on Monday evening.

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, Speaker Subas Nembang, chiefs of constitutional bodies, leaders of political parties and high-ranking officials bid Bogati a final farewell. CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel, UCPN (M) Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, General Secretary Krishna Bahadur Mahara, among other leaders, attended the funeral.

CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya and General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachhadar, Sadbhawana Party chief Rajendra Mahato, among other leaders, reached Khula Manch to pay their respects to the late leader.

CIAA Chief Lokman Singh Karki, Nepal Police Chief Upendra Kanta Aryal, Armed Police Force Chief Kosh Raj Onta, industrialists and social figures also showed up at the funeral. The UCPN (Maoist) has decided to fly the party flag at half mast for three days to mourn his death. A meeting of the party held on Monday decided not to conduct any activities of the party for the period.

Prime Minister Koirala said in his condolence message that Bogati’s death is a loss for the country and the Constituent Assembly. “He was actively involved in the constitution-drafting process and inter-party talks. His demise has saddened me,” Koirala noted.

In his condolence message, Dahal said the Maoist party and its chairman were aggrieved by the untimely death of an honest and committed leader.

Dahal said his party was committed to fulfilling Bogati’s dreams.
