Nepal faces rebuke over CAN faux pas
CAN, which has been under attack for infighting and corruption, faces another embarrassment as ICC is preparing to issue a formal warning for its failure to recruit a full-time administratorICC officials, during an inspection tour here in February, had asked CAN to hire a full-time paid staff for professional management of the game. Nepal is set to get a curt reprimand for its failure to comply with the directive when the world cricket’s top honchos meet at the ICC Annual Conference on June 24 in Melbourne.
The ICC has stated that Nepal have fallen foul of administration statute 2.1 that relates to having a full-time paid administrator, according to a report posted on espncricinfo—a leading cricket news portal. The world cricket’s governing body will issue a formal warning to CAN with a one-year deadline to comply with the regulations, failure to which will lead to international suspension.
CAN recently announced vacancies for Chief Executive Officer and Finance Manager in national newspapers, but has not hired any one yet. The Nepali cricket has been in turmoil ever since the national team staged a revolt against the working style at CAN. The national team’s revolt was followed by a vote of no confidence against CAN President Tanka Aangbuhang. Subsequently, the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority pressed charge against a majority of CAN officials for financial irregularities. These sorry episodes have deprived Nepal of hosting right of the ICC World Cricket League Division-III.
