Custody extended for Chakre Milan and 18 others
Authorities grant five-day extension as police probe allegations of road blockades and public disturbances in Kathmandu.
Post Report
Authorities have extended the custody of 19 people, including gang leader Milan Gurung, known as Chakre Milan, by five more days as police continue investigation into charges related to disrupting public order.
On Friday, the Kathmandu District Administration Office allowed police to hold the suspects further after an initial seven-day remand expired.
The group was among 47 individuals arrested on July 31 from Hotel Shambala area in
Maharajgunj following complaints of unruly behaviour and disruption of public order.
Police say the group, led by Chakre Milan, gathered on the road to cut birthday cakes, caused disturbances in Maharajgunj, and obstructed traffic. Videos circulating on social media show them cutting cakes on the roadside, handing out money in the Pashupatinath temple area, and driving in convoys that blocked vehicles on Bhaktapur roads.
Those under investigation alongside Milan include Ganesh Bahadur Bogati, Nirajan Paudel, Roshan Subedi, Rajesh Khadka, Sandeep KC, Rahul Khadka, Yamu Paudel, Saurabh Sunar, Dilliram Kandel, Hrithik Lama, Chandradev Karki, Jit Bahadur Lama, Prakash Gole, Amir Ale Magar, Uttam Maharjan, Pranish Kattel, Raju Pariyar, and Safal Shahi.
Chakre Milan is a well-known figure in Kathmandu with a long history of criminal activity and political connections. Despite multiple arrests, he continues to wield influence through a loyal following and public displays of power.
In 2018, he was arrested on money laundering charges but was later acquitted by the Special Court.
Police say further legal action will follow once the investigation is complete.
