Karnali state assembly endorses its annual budget
Rs 100 million allocated under under ‘people’s road programme’Chandani Kathayat
The state assembly of Karnali endorsed the budget for the upcoming fiscal year on Sunday.
The state government presented a budget of Rs34.35 billion for the next fiscal year amid protests from the lawmakers who were displeased with the sum allocated for the “People’s Road Programme”.
Both the ruling and the opposition lawmakers had demanded at least Rs 100 million for the road programme. But the province government had only earmarked Rs 20 million.
The budget was approved only after the government, bowing to the pressure from the lawmakers, agreed to increase the budget to Rs 100 million.
The lawmakers had also demanded budget for ‘Local Infrastructure Development Partnership Programme’ after the federal government decided to allocate Rs 60 million under the heading. However, their demand was refused by the state government.
