Nepal reports 350 cases as rapid antigen tests added to daily infection tallies

Nepal on Saturday reported 198 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 975,330.
Similarly, 152 people tested positive in a total of 3,558 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Saturday, 5,373,202 PCR and 1,035,755 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 3,538 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
Four people died from Covid-19-related infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry. The countrywide death toll has reached 11,917 since the pandemic began.
The number of active cases stands at 13,357 and the rate of infection positivity is 5.59 percent.
According to the ministry, 950,056 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 1,272 of them in the last 24 hours.
Nepal, on January 7, had reported 24 new Omicron cases. Earlier in December, three Omicron cases were confirmed.
The Health Ministry said tests conducted on 250 samples from among the 1,146 infected in the Nepali month of Poush had shown S-gene dropouts. Gene-sequencing performed on 24 samples returned Omicron results in all of them.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 62 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 51 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, seven in Lalitpur and four in Bhaktapur.
In the past 24 hours, 19 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 18 in Madhesh Pradesh, 77 in Bagmati, 40 in Gandaki, 24 in Lumbini, seven in Karnali and 12 in Sudurpaschim.
According to the data released by the ministry, four districts are home to more than 500 active cases each, other 10 districts host more than 200 active cases each.
On Saturday, 142 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 17—two in Province 1, 14 in Bagmati and one in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Friday reported 275 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and two deaths. Similarly, 364 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and six deaths were recorded on Thursday and 454 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and three deaths were recorded on Wednesday.
