Nepal reports 437 cases as rapid antigen tests added to daily infection tallies
According to the Health Ministry, the countrywide death toll has now reached 11,913 and the number of active cases stands at 14,435.Post Report
Nepal on Friday reported 275 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 975,132.
Similarly, 162 people tested positive in a total of 3,958 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Friday, 5,369,664 PCR and 1,032,197 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 5,133 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
Two people died from Covid-19-related infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry. The countrywide death toll has reached 11,913 since the pandemic began.
The number of active cases stands at 14,435 and the rate of infection positivity is 5.35 percent.
According to the ministry, 948,784 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 2,454 of them in the last 24 hours.
Nepal, on January 7, had reported 24 new Omicron cases. Earlier in December, three Omicron cases were confirmed.
The Health Ministry said tests conducted on 250 samples from among the 1,146 infected in the Nepali month of Poush had shown S-gene dropouts. Gene-sequencing performed on 24 samples returned Omicron results in all of them.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 89 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 68 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 19 in Lalitpur and two in Bhaktapur.
In the past 24 hours, 48 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 25 in Madhesh Pradesh, 114 in Bagmati, 38 in Gandaki, 40 in Lumbini, seven in Karnali and three in Sudurpaschim.
According to the data released by the ministry, six districts are home to more than 500 active cases each, other nine districts host more than 200 active cases each while Manang and Mustang has zero active cases.
On Friday, 144 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 23—two in Province 1, 18 in Bagmati and three in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Thursday 364 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and six deaths. Similarly, 454 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and three deaths were recorded on Wednesday and 498 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and two deaths were recorded on Tuesday.
