Nepal reports 680 cases as rapid antigen tests added to daily infection tallies
According to the Health Ministry, the countrywide death toll has now reached 11,902 and the number of active cases stands at 19,400.Post Report
Nepal on Tuesday reported 498 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 974,039.
Similarly, 182 people tested positive in a total of 2,839 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Tuesday, 5,350,721 PCR and 1,022,504 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 4,256 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
Two people died from Covid-19-related infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry. The countrywide death toll has reached 11,902 since the pandemic began.
The number of active cases stands at 19,400 and the rate of infection positivity is 11.70 percent.
According to the ministry, 942,737 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 1,835 of them in the last 24 hours.
Nepal, on January 7, had reported 24 new Omicron cases. Earlier in December, three Omicron cases were confirmed.
The Health Ministry said tests conducted on 250 samples from among the 1,146 infected in the Nepali month of Poush had shown S-gene dropouts. Gene-sequencing performed on 24 samples returned Omicron results in all of them.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 209 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 170 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 24 in Lalitpur and 15 in Bhaktapur.
In the past 24 hours, 81 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 31 in Madhesh Pradesh, 279 in Bagmati, 57 in Gandaki, 25 in Lumbini, nine in Karnali and 11 in Sudurpaschim.
According to the data released by the ministry, 10 districts are home to more than 500 active cases each, other seven districts host more than 200 active cases each and Manang has zero active cases.
On Tuesday, 174 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 33—four in Province 1, 25 in Bagmati and four in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Monday reported 482 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and eight deaths, Similarly, 427 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and 10 deaths were recorded on Sunday and 491 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and four deaths were reported on Saturday.
