Nepal reports 747 cases as rapid antigen tests added to daily infection tallies
According to the Health Ministry, the countrywide death toll has now reached 11,900 and the number of active cases stands at 20,739.Post Report
Nepal on Monday reported 482 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 973,541.
Similarly, 265 people tested positive in a total of 2,417 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Monday, 5,346,465 PCR and 1,019,665 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 6,279 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
Eight people died from Covid-19-related infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry. The countrywide death toll has reached 11,900 since the pandemic began.
The number of active cases stands at 20,739 and the rate of infection positivity is 7.67 percent.
According to the ministry, 940,902 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 2,319 of them in the last 24 hours.
Nepal, on January 7, had reported 24 new Omicron cases. Earlier in December, three Omicron cases were confirmed.
The Health Ministry said tests conducted on 250 samples from among the 1,146 infected in the Nepali month of Poush had shown S-gene dropouts. Gene-sequencing performed on 24 samples returned Omicron results in all of them.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 226 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 181 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 30 in Lalitpur and 15 in Bhaktapur.
In the past 24 hours, 74 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 28 in Madhesh Pradesh, 262 in Bagmati, 58 in Gandaki, 39 in Lumbini, seven in Karnali and 11 in Sudurpaschim.
According to the data released by the ministry, 10 districts are home to more than 500 active cases each, other eight districts host more than 200 active cases each and Manang has zero active cases.
On Monday, 178 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 34—two in Province 1, 27 in Bagmati, one in Gandaki and four in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Sunday reported 427 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and 10 deaths. Similarly, 491 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and four deaths were recorded on Saturday and 666 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and 14 deaths were reported on Friday.
