Nepal reports 639 cases as rapid antigen tests added to daily infection tallies
According to the Health Ministry, the countrywide death toll has now reached 11,905 and the number of active cases stands at 18,251.Post Report
Nepal on Wednesday reported 454 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 974,493.
Similarly, 185 people tested positive in a total of 2,974 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Wednesday, 5,357,503 PCR and 1,025,478 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 6,782 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
Three people died from Covid-19-related infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry. The countrywide death toll has reached 11,905 since the pandemic began.
The number of active cases stands at 18,251 and the rate of infection positivity is 6.69 percent.
According to the ministry, 944,337 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 1,600 of them in the last 24 hours.
Nepal, on January 7, had reported 24 new Omicron cases. Earlier in December, three Omicron cases were confirmed.
The Health Ministry said tests conducted on 250 samples from among the 1,146 infected in the Nepali month of Poush had shown S-gene dropouts. Gene-sequencing performed on 24 samples returned Omicron results in all of them.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 199 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 162 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 25 in Lalitpur and 12 in Bhaktapur.
In the past 24 hours, 81 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 24 in Madhesh Pradesh, 241 in Bagmati, 50 in Gandaki, 25 in Lumbini, 10 in Karnali and 21 in Sudurpaschim.
According to the data released by the ministry, 10 districts are home to more than 500 active cases each, other six districts host more than 200 active cases each and Manang has zero active cases.
On Wednesday, 156 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 26—four in Province 1, 19 in Bagmati and three in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Tuesday reported 498 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and two deaths. Similarly, 482 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and eight deaths were recorded on Monday and 427 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and 10 deaths were reported on Sunday.
