Nepal reports 570 cases as rapid antigen tests added to daily infection tallies
According to the Health Ministry, the countrywide death toll has now reached 11,911 and the number of active cases stands at 16,616.Post Report
Nepal on Thursday reported 364 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 974,857.
Similarly, 206 people tested positive in a total of 2,761 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Thursday, 5,364,531 PCR and 1,028,239 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 7,028 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
Six people died from Covid-19-related infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry. The countrywide death toll has reached 11,911 since the pandemic began.
The number of active cases stands at 16,616 and the rate of infection positivity is 5.18 percent.
According to the ministry, 946,330 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 1,993 of them in the last 24 hours.
Nepal, on January 7, had reported 24 new Omicron cases. Earlier in December, three Omicron cases were confirmed.
The Health Ministry said tests conducted on 250 samples from among the 1,146 infected in the Nepali month of Poush had shown S-gene dropouts. Gene-sequencing performed on 24 samples returned Omicron results in all of them.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 143 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 116 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 18 in Lalitpur and nine in Bhaktapur.
In the past 24 hours, 72 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 20 in Madhesh Pradesh, 192 in Bagmati, 31 in Gandaki, 29 in Lumbini, eight in Karnali and eight in Sudurpaschim.
According to the data released by the ministry, 10 districts are home to more than 500 active cases each, other six districts host more than 200 active cases each and Manang has zero active cases.
On Thursday, 151 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 26—four in Province 1, 19 in Bagmati and three in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Wednesday reported 454 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and three deaths. Similarly, 498 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and two deaths were recorded on Tuesday and 482 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and eight deaths were reported on Monday.
