Nepal reports 1,128 cases as rapid antigen tests added to daily infection tallies
According to the Health Ministry, the countrywide death toll has now reached 11,878 and the number of active cases stands at 27,441.Post Report
Nepal on Friday reported 666 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 972,141.
Similarly, 462 people tested positive in a total of 3,542 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Friday, 5,329,889 PCR and 1,010,776 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 17,447 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
Fourteen people died from Covid-19-related infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry. The countrywide death toll has reached 11,878 since the pandemic began.
The number of active cases stands at 27,441 and the rate of infection positivity is 3.81 percent.
According to the ministry, 932,822 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 2,215 of them in the last 24 hours.
Nepal, on January 7, had reported 24 new Omicron cases. Earlier in December, three Omicron cases were confirmed.
The Health Ministry said tests conducted on 250 samples from among the 1,146 infected in the Nepali month of Poush had shown S-gene dropouts. Gene-sequencing performed on 24 samples returned Omicron results in all of them.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 265 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 203 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 45 in Lalitpur and 17 in Bhaktapur.
In the past 24 hours, 104 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 32 in Madhesh Pradesh, 333 in Bagmati, 63 in Gandaki, 83 in Lumbini and 13 in Karnali.
According to the data released by the ministry, 13 districts are home to more than 500 active cases each and other 14 districts host more than 200 active cases each.
On Friday, 206 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 36—three in Province 1, 27 in Bagmati, two in Lumbini and four in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Thursday reported 1,013 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and 12 deaths. Similarly, 1,851 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and 14 deaths were reported on Wednesday and 1,184 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and 11 deaths were reported on Tuesday.
