Nepal’s Covid-19 toll reaches 164 with seven more deaths; 855 new infections take tally to 33,533

Nepal reported seven more Covid-19-related deaths on Tuesday, taking the toll to 164. Meanwhile, 855 new cases, of them 199 in Kathmandu district alone, were reported in the past 24 hours, taking the national tally to 33,533.
The health ministry said that a woman and two men from Kathmandu, a 22-year-old man from Siraha, a 68-year-old man from Parsa, a 76-year-old man from Dhanusa and a 53-year-old man from Rupandehi succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
According to the ministry, 68 individuals from Province 2, 35 from Bagmati Province, 22 from Province 5, 18 from Province 1, eight each from Sudurpaschim and Gandaki provinces and four from Karnali have died due to Covid-19-related conditions so far.
“A total of 11,327 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were carried out in the past 24 hours,” said Health Ministry spokesperson Dr Jageshwar Gautam, during a regular press briefing. So far, 621, 901 PCR tests have been performed in the country.
Samples from 199 individuals from Kathmandu, 69 from Rupandehi, 58 from Sarlahi, 45 from Doti, 44 from Rautahat, 43 from Morang, 42 from Dhanusa, 37 from Chitwan, 23 from Kapilvastu, 19 each from Lalitpur and Achham; 18 from Dang, 17 each from Bara and Mahottari, 16 each from Sunsari and Kailali; 15 from Banke, 14 from Bhaktapur, 13 from Kaski, 12 from Kanchanpur, nine from Bajhang, eight each from Dhading and Nawalparasi (West); six each from Tanahun and Bardiya; five each from Jhapa, Kavrepalanchok, Kalikot and Surkhet; four each from Parsa, Nawalparasi (East), Palpa, Pyuthan, Dailekh and Salyan; three each from Saptari, Siraha, Dolakha and Rolpa; two each from Solukhumbu, Makwanpur, Gorkha, Parbat, Gulmi, Dadeldhura, Baitadi, and Sinddhupalchok; one each from Udayapur, Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Nuwakot, Ramechhap, Lamjung, Baglung, Argakhanchi, Jumla and Mugu tested positive for coronavirus.
So far, 19,119 individuals have made successful recoveries after being diagnosed with Covid-19. According to the ministry, 313 Covid patients were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours. There are 13,715 active cases in the country.
Gautam said, “150 patients are undergoing treatment at intensive care units in various hospitals across the country while 13 patients in Bagmati Province are being treated with ventilator support.”
Two districts—Mustang and Humla—don’t have any active cases, according to the ministry.
Nepal reported eight Covid-19-related deaths and 743 new cases on Monday. Officials reported 818 new infections and three deaths on Sunday.
The country on Saturday recorded nine Covid-19-related deaths and 634 new infections. There were 11 Covid-19-related deaths and 838 new infections on Friday. Thursday saw six Covid-19-related deaths and 707 new cases, compared to six covid-19-related deaths and 681 new cases on Wednesday, and 1,016 new infections and six deaths on Tuesday.
