Nepal’s Covid-19 tally reaches 31,935 with 818 new cases; three more deaths take toll to 149

With 818 new infections, Nepal’s Covid-19 tally reached 31,935 on Sunday. Meanwhile, three more deaths were reported in the past 24 hours to take the toll to 149.
The Health Ministry said that a 58-year-old man from Jhapa, a 56-year-old woman from Parsa and a 33-year-old woman from Sarlahi succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
According to the ministry, 64 individuals from Province 2, 31 from Bagmati Province, 17 each from Province 5 and Province 1, eight each from Sudurpaschim and Gandaki provinces and four from Karnali have died from Covid-19-related conditions so far.
“A total of 8,026 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were carried out in the past 24 hours,” said Health Ministry spokesperson Dr Jageshwar Gautam, during a regular press briefing. So far, 600,444 PCR tests have been performed in the country.
Samples of 139 individuals from Parsa, 126 from Kathmandu, 91 from Sarlahi, 60 from Dhanusha, 50 from Morang, 39 from Bara, 34 from Mahottari, 30 from Nawalparasi (West), 28 each from Bhaktapur and Rupandehi; 27 from Kavre, 23 from Achham, 14 from Siraha, 12 each from Lalitpur and Argakhanchi; 11 each from Kapilvastu and Banke, 10 from Jhapa, nine each from Rautahat and Sunsari; six each from Dolakha, Nawalparasi (East) and Rukum (West); five from Kaski, four each from Saptari and Baitadi; three from Bajhang, two each from Ramechhap, Gorkha, Palpa, Pyuthan, Bardiya, Jumla and Dadeldhura; and one each from Dhading, Makwanpur, Rasuwa, Sindhuli, Rukum (East), Rolpa and Darchula tested positive for the coronavirus.
So far, 18,631 individuals have made successful recoveries after being diagnosed with Covid-19. According to the ministry, 281 Covid patients were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours. There are 13,155 active cases in the country.
Gautam said, “137 patients are undergoing treatment at intensive care units in various hospitals across the country while 10 patients in Bagmati Province are being treated with ventilator support.”
Three districts—Mustang, Myagdi and Humla—don’t have any active cases, according to the ministry.
Nepal on Saturday saw nine Covid-19-related deaths and 634 new infections. The country had reported 11 Covid-19-related deaths and 838 new infections on Friday. There were six Covid-19-related deaths and 707 new cases on Thursday, compared to six covid-19-related deaths and 681 new cases on Wednesday, and 1,016 new infections and six deaths on Tuesday. Three Covid-19-related deaths and 581 new infections were recorded on Monday.
