A total of 31 police offices in Gandaki Province were damaged during the protests on September 8 and 9, with Kaski suffering the heaviest losses. Three major police units in the district—the District Police Office, the District Traffic Police Office, and the Ward Police Office in Bagar—were destroyed.
Weapons were looted from two of the units, though police have not disclosed the number. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Tul Bahadur Karki, spokesperson for Gandaki Province Police, incidents of arson and vandalism were recorded in police offices in Kaski, Tanahun, and Nawalparasi East.
Twenty-two police vehicles, including 14 two-wheelers and eight four-wheelers, were either burned down or vandalised. About 1,005 devices—including computers, laptops, printers, scanners, projectors, cameras, routers, handsets, and metal detectors—were destroyed or looted.
The personal belongings of 351 police personnel were also damaged, causing losses worth around Rs21.5 million. The affected officers were stationed in Kaski, Tanahun, Nawalparasi East, Baglung, Parbat, and Syangja.
Deputy Inspector General Dinesh Kumar Acharya, chief of Gandaki Province Police, said all damaged offices are now back in operation and replacement of weapons and uniforms has been completed. He added that discussions are ongoing on how to address the personal losses of the police staff, while those involved in arson and vandalism are being arrested.
Kaski District Police Office has been active in prosecuting suspects. It said 19 people have been arrested for torching, vandalising, and stealing police property or misusing uniforms. Cases are ongoing against 11 of them, while eight were released on bail, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Bahadur Basnet.
Among those arrested, several were repeat offenders. Rupesh Magar, 41, from Pokhara-1, who had a prior case of public offence from 2005, was found involved in setting fire to the Bagar Police Office. Similarly, Rajesh Makranti, 24, of Dhading, residing at Manabadhikar Chowk in Pokhara, had a previous case related to indecent behaviour in 2022.
In another case, Purna Bahadur Nepali, 42, of Nayapul, escaped from custody at the Bagar Police Office and was later found involved in setting fire to the Nayapul Police Post and looting weapons.
Likewise, 26-year-old Bibash Jalari of Ghari Patan, Pokhara-7, who had escaped from the Kaski District Prison on September 9, was arrested for stealing a Canon camera and a Pulsar NS motorcycle from the Baidam Police Office. He had been jailed earlier on an attempted murder charge.
