Two children died and a woman was injured after a landslide occurred in Kaski in the wee hours of Wednesday.
A 13-year-old girl died in Chitepani of Madi Rural Municipality-5 after her house was swept away in the disaster at around 2:15am on Wednesday, police said.
The teen and her 70-year-old grandmother, Lal Maya Banjari, were the only ones at home when the incident occurred. Lal Maya’s condition is normal, said Basanta Kumar Sharma, spokesperson for the district police.
Likewise, a three-year-old boy was also killed in a separate landslide that occurred in Aarupata of Pokhara Metropolitan City-27 at around 3am.
The child died after local Hari Sunwar’s mud-thatched house collapsed in the disaster, burying all those inside.
Hari’s wife 27-year-old Ritu has sustained serious injuries.
“She has been sent to the Gandaki Medical College for treatment. Her condition is serious,” Sharma added.
Hari and his other child, a nine-year-old girl, were rescued unharmed by the police. The house has been completely damaged and rendered uninhabitable.
Heavy rainfall also triggered a flood in the district, inundating five houses—two in Gairikhet and three in Bagmara—in Pokhara. The floods occurred at 6:30am and 3am, respectively.
