Bimala Chaudhary scored four goals and Chandra Bhandari netted a hat-trick as Tribhuvan Army Club decimated Waling Municipality 12-0 in the Super League stage of the ANFA Women’s League at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato, Lalitpur on Wednesday.
Sapana Lama and Anjana Thulung Rai were also on target with two goals each, while Bimala BK rounded off the scoring in what was a goal fest for Army.
The outcome sent Army to the summit of the five-team Super League standings, with seven points. Nepal Police Club also have seven points but Army stay on top due to a superior goal difference. Defending champions Armed Police Force Club sit third with six points but they have played a game fewer than their departmental rivals. APF, who are in pursuit of their fourth consecutive title, face a tough challenge from Police in their quest to reclaim the top spot.
For Waling and Bagmati, the Super League stage has become a mere formality, with neither side managing a win in their three matches. Waling, in particular, have been more vulnerable without their key players Jackline Nassali, Viola Namuddu and Cissy Nantongo. The Ugandan trio were instrumental in leading Waling to the Super League. Waling conceded nine against APF and five against Police.
Army needed goals to strengthen their position in the table and they fully capitalised on Waling’s weaknesses with a goal rush.
Bhandari opened the scoring in the 23rd minute pouncing on a poor defending from Dhana Bohara, who failed to clear the ball near the penalty arc, allowing the forward to slot past Waling goalkeeper Radhika Oli.
Lama doubled Army’s lead two minutes later, capitalising on another mistake from Waling. This time, goalie Oli was at fault as her poor goalkeeping allowed Lama to tap in from close range.
Bhandari added her second in the 31st minute, converting a pass from Susmita Chaudhary.
Bimala Chaudhary made it 4-0 in the 34th, coolly finishing a cross from Lama. She struck again three minutes into the second half with a precise low drive into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Thulung Rai joined the scoring spree in the 56th minute, rifling a powerful shot from just outside the six yard box after Lama cut back for her.
Bimala Chaudhary completed her hat-trick at the hour mark with a low shot. Waling goalie Oli could have saved Bimala Chaudhary’s effort with a routine save but the goalkeeper’s apparent loss of focus and dedication let the ball in.
Oli’s lack of zeal in front of the post forced Waling coach Dilip Thapa to replace her with second-choice goalkeeper Sanjina Majhi but the stand-in goalkeeper fared no better either.
Bhandari secured her hat-trick in the 69th minute taking advantage of another blunder from Waling defender Bohara. Bhandari intercepted a poor pass from the defender, raced into the box and fired past Majhi.
Thuling Rai hit again moments later, outsmarting onrushing Majhi with a deft finish after a good work from Dipa Rai.
Lama notched her second in the 73rd capitalising on another goalkeeping mishap before Bimala Chaudhary completed her four-goal haul from the penalty spot in the 79th minute. Army were awarded the penalty after Waling defender Bohara handled the ball inside the area.
Bimala BK put the final nail in the coffin in the 89th minute, converting a rebound after Waling goalkeeper Majhi poorly blocked a header from Surakshya Sukhariya.
Waling remains rooted in the bottom of the league.
