West Indies opt to bowl after winning toss against Nepal
Nepal under pressure to win as West Indies eye Super 8 spot.Post Report
Nepal lost the toss to West Indies in their third group-stage match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, with captain Shai Hope choosing to bowl first at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Nepal made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Sompal Kami in place of Lalit Rajbanshi.
After losing their first two group matches, Nepal face immense pressure to win today, while West Indies are on the brink of qualifying for the Super 8 with back-to-back wins.
Nepal head coach Stuart Law had warned of the challenges ahead during a pre-match press conference at Wankhede Stadium. Citing the Rhinos’ 10-wicket defeat to Italy, he called it a “disappointing” loss, especially after their near-upset against England. Law also raised concerns about social media distractions and the lack of multi-day cricket in Nepal.
“The high after England was encouraging, but going 10 wickets down against Italy four days later shows a lack of mental toughness and commitment to the team and country,” Law said.
He emphasised that players must focus on cricket over social media. “In the World Cup, cricket is the priority. Success on the field will naturally bring attention; there's no need to chase likes online,” he said.
West Indies players also acknowledged Nepal as a serious opponent. Caribbean all-rounder Akeal Hosein said, “Nepal have nothing to lose and will try to show the world they can compete. It’s about who plays the best cricket on the day.”
The match kicks off at 11am local time at Wankhede Stadium, where the largest Nepali crowd so far is expected.
