Nepal’s skipper Indu Barma sidelined for weeks due to injury
Barma sustained a Grade II Hamstring Strain and will be on rest for eight to 12 weeks, says CAN.Post Report
Indu Barma, captain of Nepal women’s cricket team, was on the striker’s end during the fourth ball of the seventh over by Scotland’s Abtaha Maqsood during their respective last group-stage match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier at the TU International Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, on January 26.
Barma missed the ball as she came a bit ahead with her front foot. And to survive stumping, she attempted a big leap with her back foot towards the crease. However, her balance was not good.
As the bails went off and Barma reached behind the line, she looked hurt. The bat fell out of her hands, and she rolled over. While a check from the third umpire ensured Barma survived stumping, she could not continue.
After several minutes of medical attention on the ground, she was taken out on a stretcher. Barma was then at 5 off 5.
Barma got retired hurt, and she could not come back when Nepal lost the ninth wicket at 68 runs in 13.5 overs while chasing 141 runs. It was a crucial match for Nepal as a win would have kept them alive to progress to the Super 6 of the Qualifier and get closer to their maiden World Cup.
However, the result did not go in favour of the hosts.
Meanwhile, concerns remained about Barma’s injury. And on Friday, the Cricket Association of Nepal confirmed that Barma would be out for at least eight to 12 weeks.
“Barma sustained a Grade II Hamstring Strain and will be on rest for eight to 12 weeks,” read a press statement by CAN.
