West Indies hammered Nepal by 10 wickets in the third and final T20I of the Unity Cup series in Sharjah on Tuesday, but Nepal still walked away with a historic 2-1 series victory.
Chasing a modest target of 123, West Indies openers Amir Jangoo and Ackeem Auguste made light work of Nepal’s bowling, reaching 123 without loss in just 12.2 overs. Jangoo was the star, smashing 74 off 45 balls with five fours and six sixes. His partner Auguste struck an unbeaten 41 off 29 deliveries, including four boundaries and two sixes.
Earlier, put in to bat, Nepal struggled to build partnerships and were bowled out for 122 in 19.5 overs. Opener Kushal Bhurtel top-scored with 39 runs off 29 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes. Captain Rohit Paudel contributed 17, while Sundeep Jora managed 14. Kushal Malla (12) and Gulsan Jha (10) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as the middle and lower order collapsed under sustained pressure from the Caribbean bowlers.
West Indies’ left-arm pacer Ramon Simmonds was the standout performer with the ball, claiming four wickets for just 15 runs in his three overs. Jediah Blades picked up two wickets, while Jason Holder and Akeal Hosein took one apiece.
Despite Tuesday’s setback, Nepal had already secured the series with back-to-back wins in the opening two matches. They stunned the two-time T20 World Cup winners by 19 runs in the opener on Saturday and followed it up with a resounding 90-run victory in the second game on Monday.
For his consistent batting performances, Bhurtel was named Player of the Series. Simmonds took the Player of the Match award for his decisive spell in the final game.
The 2-1 triumph marks Nepal’s first-ever bilateral T20I series win against a full ICC member side.
