Thailand defeated the Netherlands by 17 runs in the ongoing Women’s T20 series in Kathmandu on Monday. The match, held at the Tribhuvan University Ground in Kirtipur, saw Thailand post a modest total of 86/10 in 19.5 overs. In response, the Netherlands fell short, managing only 69 runs before being bowled out in 15.5 overs.
Chasing a target of 87 runs, the Netherlands struggled against Thailand’s disciplined bowling attack. Captain Babette de Leede top-scored for the Dutch side with 25 runs, while Iris Zwilling added 13 and Caroline de Lange contributed 10 runs. However, regular wickets fell, and the Netherlands was unable to reach the target.
Earlier, Thailand, having lost the toss and asked to bat first, had a tough time setting a big total. They were all out for 86 in 19.5 overs. Chanida Sutthiruang was the highest scorer for Thailand with 27 runs, while Phannita Maya added 12. Despite a few individual contributions, Thailand’s innings lacked momentum as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
For the Netherlands, Zwilling, Eva Lynch, and Silver Siegers all took two wickets each, while Isabel van der Woning claimed one wicket.
This was Thailand’s second consecutive win over the Netherlands in the series. The first encounter saw Thailand achieve a convincing eight-wicket victory.
Nepal will play Thailand on Tuesday.
