Mid-West University and Lucknow University will vie against each other in the final of the Jay Nepal Cup South Asian University T20 cricket tournament.
Mid-West stormed into the final with a commanding 77-run win over Tribhuvan University in the semi-final match at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Mid-West posted a formidable 191-8, powered by half centuries from opener Rabindra Jung Shahi and Deepak Prasad Dumre. Shahi cracked 69 runs off 50 balls hitting one four and six sixes, while Dumre smashed five fours and five sixes in his explosive 32-ball 63.
Diwan Pun added a quickfire 23 off 12 to boost the total.
Mukesh Ojha took two wickets for TU, while Amit Kumar Mandal, Bhim Sharki, Symon Roy and Santosh Bahadur Chand picked one wicket apiece.
In reply, opener Lokesh Bam’s blistering 44 off 22 balls, including a 50-run opening stand with Aaish Bhattarai (1) in just 4.2 overs gave TU a solid start.
However, once Bipin Khatri dismissed Bam, TU’s batting line-up crumbled, and they could manage only 114 runs in 18.3 overs.
Surendra Prasad Pant’s 18 off 19 and Sharki’s 15 off 16 were the only other notable contributions for TU.
Bipin, Diwan Pun and Subash Bhandari took two wickets each for Mid-West, while Raj Kumar Shah and Binit Khatri picked a wicket apiece.
Lucknow booked their spot in the final with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Dhaka University.
Lucknow overhauled the huge target of 180 runs in just 16.5 overs on the back of outstanding half-centuries from opener Manan Kandpal and Yash Vardhan Singh.
Kandpal blazed 59 off 24 and Vardhan Singh remained unbeaten on 82 off just 39 balls to guide Lucknow to 182-3.
Dhaka’s Sharear Sakib took two wickets, while Mahafizul Islam accounted for one.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, Dhaka posted a competitive 179-4, with their innings headlined by Iftakhar Hossain’s sensational unbeaten 95 off 50, that featured nine fours and four sixes.
