Hippie, which was published in April this year, is touted as Coelho’s most autobiographical novel to date. The book tells the story of a Brazilian national who sets off on a journey “in search of a deeper meaning for his life.”
The book chronicles his journey from Amsterdam, where he meets Karla, a Dutch woman seeking for a companion for her journey on the famous hippie trail to Nepal. The two travel together with other fellow travelers on the ‘Magic Bus’ and traverse across Europe to Central Asia through Kathmandu.
Coelho is one of the world’s bestselling and most-translated authors; his breakout 1988 novel, The Alchemist, has sold over 6.5 million copies around the world and has been translated into as many as 80 languages so far.
“For us at Sant Jordi the best part of being Paulo Coelho’s literary agent is to know that his extraordinary books will be published and read in so many languages and reach readers all over the world. We are genuinely excited about the Nepali version of Hippie to be published by Fineprint Books,” Coelho’s publisher is quoted as saying in a release issued by the book’s Nepali publisher.
CEO of Fineprint Niraj Bhari said that he is excited and proud to acquire the translation rights for a book by an author who is as beloved in Nepal as anywhere else in the world. “We are genuinely excited about this, as no living author has been translated into as many languages as Paulo Coelho. More so, because Hippie is set against the backdrop of the famous hippie trail of the 70s, which led to Kathmandu,” Bhari said.
Fineprint is yet to announce the release date and translator of the Nepali version of the book.
