All-woman comedy lineup at story yellers
If you ask the social butterflies of Kathmandu what’s a good place to hang out in the evenings, they are likely to suggest that you visit a stand-up comedy show taking place in one place or the other. If you ask the social butterflies of Kathmandu what’s a good place to hang out in the evenings, they are likely to suggest that you visit a stand-up comedy show taking place in one place or the other.
Of late, standup comedy has become regular fixtures at open mics and comedy nights abound all week, all around the city. People are coming out of their homes to either perform or listen to sets replete with sharp wit and impromptu comebacks. While the stand-up comedy scene is undoubtedly on the rise here, these shows are still predominantly led by men and there are very few women who headline shows and pour their hearts out unabashedly.
The third episode of The Story Yellers Comedy Specials, however, is slated to feature an all-women comedy lineup on Wednesday evening. The show will see self taught ventriloquist Seema Golchha, mountaineer-turned-comedian Shailee Basnet, and young comedians who are on a steady rise of late—Shraddha Verma and Yozana Thapa Magar, share the stage. It’s bound to be a hell of a show and dare I say, it’s also the highest profile show to take place of late.
The show is strictly 18 as these four comedians are slated to go against the grain and shed light on everything that is deemed inappropriate for women to talk about in public in our society.
The event will take place at Calm Courtyard in Tangal on Aug 22 and will run from 6:45 pm onwards.
