Zee Cine Awards and Himalayan Conclave in Nepal
Kathmandu is gearing up for a mega convention, dubbed the Himalayan Conclave, of filmmakers and film enthusiasts from South Asia.Kathmandu is gearing up for a mega convention, dubbed the Himalayan Conclave, of filmmakers and film enthusiasts from South Asia. The conclave is set to take place on December 6 this year said organiser of the conclave, film director Dinesh DC.
According to DC, the main agenda of the conclave is to brainstorm solutions to existing challenges in the film industries of the South Asian region—ranging from censorship to shooting. Nepali films still struggle for months to get a green light for screening in India, while Bollywood cinemas get a censorship certificate even prior to their release.
“The conclave will focus on making the censorship process more efficient and effective, but that’s not all,” DC said, adding, “When a foreign movie is to be filmed in Nepal, they travel with the help of travel agencies. And when we have to travel to another country it’s a different story altogether, and the journey is perhaps more challenging.”
The conclave, aims to address all these issues and more. The convention will explore the possibility for the development of one-door policy in the whole South Asian region.
DC shares that PM KP Oli had made a proposal for this conclave in his last India visit. A group of prominent figures from India—politician Amar Singh, the Chairman of Essel Group and Zee TV network Subash Chandra, and prominent actor Jaya Prada—recently travelled to Nepal and sealed the deal with the PM. “Besides the conclave, Zee Cine Awards will also now take place in Nepal,” confirmed DC. The awards show was slated to take place in Dubai before this switch in decision.
“With who’s who of the South Asian region visiting the country, the two shows are expected to help boost tourism for Visit Nepal 2020,” BC said.
