Folk/Rock band Nepathya capped a memorable two-city tour of the US with a performance at the Royale Boston in Boston, Massachusetts. The concert, attended for the most part by members of the Nepali expat community, was steeped in nostalgia and consisted of patriotic numbers such as Timi pani Nepali, Ma pani Nepali and Jangi Nishan.
During the show, front man Amrit Gurung had addressed the crowd stating, “I was very glad to see Nepali children spending four hours of their weekly Sundays to learn Nepali. I thank you all for taking time out during your precious weekend for this cause and taking them there.
However, merely taking them there and leaving them for four hours will not do the job. There is a simple contribution you can add. Speak Nepali with your children at home.” Gurung then went on to applaud all the parents present in the crowd prompting the hall to erupt in counter applause.
Upon landing in Boston a few days prior to the show, Gurung had visited a volunteer-run weekly Nepali language class for children. “I am truly encouraged by the endorsement by Amrit dai for our effort to run the Nepali Class,” said Samjhana Gurung of Tamu Samaj, one of the organisers of the show. “I hope the parents will listen to him,” she added.
