Old Pokhara in pictures
A week-long photo exhibition, Sabaile Nadekheko Pokhara, which displays photographs of Pokhara before the’50s, is currently ongoing at Nepal Art Council, Babarmahal, in Kathmandu. Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation of Nepal Rabindra Adhikari, at his inaugural speech, said that the state is soon to commence the construction of a museum to archive such timeless photographs. Bishnu Thakali, the chairperson of Didi Bahini Samuha, said that the group wanted more people to see the rare photographs, which is why they were brought to Kathmandu for display.
The 97 photos on show were collected by Sunil Ulak. Currently, Ulak has over 50,000 such photographs in his posession. Ulak inherided the collection from his father who started collecting photographs in 1954. Many of these photos have been digitised and have been frequently exhibited in and aruond Pokhara and some of them are soon to be fixtures in the lake city’s the regional museum.
The exhibition at NAC will run till Sunday.
