The programme consisted of speeches and presentations delivered by historians and others in celebration of Acharya’s legacy.
Speaking at the event, guest of honour and Chancellor of the Academy, Ganga Prasad Upreti, praised Acharya for his erudite work and valuable contributions to the study of Nepali history. Upreti also noted the dearth of translations of Acharya’s considerable works and expressed hope that future publications would take steps towards translating the venerated historian’s work.
Various academics including Surendra KC and Rajesh Gautam also spoke at the event, extolling the works of the late historian. Also present was former ambassador to Malaysia, Niranjan Singh Basnet, who, while speaking at the event, criticised the political motives behind the designation of icon-hood, arguing that the concept has been exploited for political ends and that a reevaluation of history is necessary and in line with Acharya’s own thinking.
