The rally, which commenced at Swayambunath concluded at Babar Mahal and featured international cyclist, Puskar Shah and veteran actor, Rajesh Hamal. Afterwards, in observance of Martyr’s day, participants tended to the trees that line the road between Bijuli Bazaar and Maitighar. The watering of trees was conceived of as a homage to the martyrs.
The bike rally happens to be the fourth event organised by the movement. In previous weeks, public discussions as well as demonstrations have been arranged by the group. Illustrious members from various walks of life as well as public health experts have been participants. By using weekly events, the #swachchhahawa movement works to raise public awareness regarding air pollution through which it ultimately hopes to influence government policy with regards to air pollution and public health. Part of their explicit goal is the capping of various sources of pollution as well as holding accountable the parties most responsible for the depreciating quality of air.
