After what has been a long and intriguing maiden season of Himalaya Roadies, we now have our two finalists. In a nerve-wrecking penultimate episode for the series, the show’s favourites—Animesh Shahi and Saman Shrestha—came out on top, earning themselves a place in the finals next week and the opportunity to become the first ever Roadie.
Getting there, however, wasn’t easy. The dramatic two rounds of semi-finals, which saw the two other remaining Roadies—Ranjana Bhattarai and Sudit Shrestha—lock horns with the eventual finalists in a battle of strength and endurance, but also sheer luck. The first semi final saw the four contestants, split into two teams, out-wrestle each other in a blind-folded Sumo-esque match. Saman and Animesh won their respective heats, but could hardly be set apart when they went head to head. Eventually, Animesh became the first finalist, narrowing beating Saman by a single point.
If the first semi final was a test of power, endurance and guile, the second round was based on pure luck. In it, owing to his performance in the previous semi-final, Saman was asked to pick one out of three tracks to ride on. If the two other contestants chose the track that he was on, they would have gone into the final. Nail-biting as it was, Saman eventually chose the empty track, sealing a spot in the final.
This means that Animesh and Saman, who have both earned themselves legions of fans through the season, will now go head to head to become the first ever Himalaya Roadie. Along with winning a Bajaj Avenger, the eventual Roadie will also walk away with the money accrued through ‘money tasks’ throughout the series. That total stands at Rs 880,000.
Himalaya Roadies is the Nepali edition of the popular Indian reality TV show MTV Roadies. Licensed for Nepal by Via Com 18, the show’s finale will air on Himalaya TV on October 30 at 8pm.
