Zonta Club Kathmandu, Nepal on Friday organised a premiere show for Bollywood flick 'Toilet Ek Prem Katha' in Kathmandu, with intent to spread a positive message in the society that the movie carries.

The Bollywood movie released on Friday emphasises on the eradication of open defecation, especially in rural areas.

The Club stated that they chose the movie for premiere because lack of basic sanitation facilities in Nepal has deprived many girls from attending schools. "Over six out of ten women in Nepal risk shame, disease, harassment and even attack because they have nowhere safe to go to the toilet and 6.6 million Nepali women have no choice but to go to the toilet out in the open," read a statement issued by the club today.

According to the Zonta Club, it has been working on the advancement of the status of women with the objective to improve their economic, education, health, and issues related to youth and violence against women at the national and local level through service and advocacy.

Nepal is the 64th country officially chartered as Zonta Club Kathmandu, Nepal.

The club has indulged itself in building toilets in schools of Sindhupalchok and Lalitpur. "Considering the drop out of girl child in these schools where there were no toilets, we have built 10 toilets in the schools of Sindhupalchok," states the statement.

The Club has also built toilets in two places at Goldhunga and Pashupati Area with the help of Sulabh International Organisation.  "We are pleased to inform you that Nepal is the first country in South Asia to collaborate with Sulabh Organization for transfer of cost effective sanitation technology," states press statement.
