India Now and In Transition, an anthology of essays comprising a total of 37 articles by Indian writers such as Ramachandra Guha, Shashi Tharoor, Wajahat Habibullah, TSR Subramanian, among others, was launched amid a function held at the India International Centre in New Delhi on Friday. The book is edited by journalist Atul K Thakur.
According to publishers, Niyogi Books, the book examines how India is being shaped by contemporary political events and other key determinants. “What this book intends is not a prognosis (which is often confused with prediction), but, rather, an inquiry into futures based on current happenings,” read a statement issued by the publishers.
The book covers issues ranging from contemporary Indian politics, culture, governance, security, economics, and foreign policy.
Speaking at the function, Bimal Jalan, former Governor of Reserve Bank of India said, “Everyone who is interested in South Asian affairs will be benefitted by the book-for it covers the present-day India and the transitions it is going through.”
