After a four-year-long relationship, actor Nisha Adhikari and cricketer Sharad Veshwakar have tied the knot in a marriage ceremony held in the Capital on Friday. The ceremony took place at the Hotel Annapurna in Durbarmarg and was attended by prominent cricketers and film professionals.
Nisha first came into the limelight by bagging the Miss International Nepal title in 2005 as a 21-year-old, before representing Nepal at the Miss International pageant in Japan. Following the competition, Nisha forayed into modelling before taking to acting through television roles. She has since starred in over a dozen mainstream movies.
Sharad on the other hand is a middle-order right-handed batsman and an off-break bowler who has been a mainstay of the national cricket team over the last decade. The first Nepali cricketer to score a century in international cricket (an unbeaten 105 against Fiji in 2010), Sharad has been a popular-face in Nepali cricket, having represented the country right from the Under-15 level. While it had been rumoured that the couple had been dating for the past few years, the first time the duo were seen together in public was during the announcement of the 2014 movie Fitkiree.
Nisha wrote on her Facebook after the ceremony on Friday: “It feels gr8 to see our partnership mature into marriage after 4 years of extremely well played innings and equally bad ones. In the end, I learnt that it requires more than just love to reach a state of mental and emotional settling down...after which marriage just becomes a happy festivity and an extremely joyful ritual. I am thankful to Sharad for waiting and letting me calm my mental storm first, with so much patience, acceptance, strength and love...”
