Fine Arts on Print, a training, workshop and exhibition, kicked off in the premises of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (Nafa), in Naxal on Monday. Organised by department of Folk Arts of Nafa, the three-day art event aims to expand the horizons of Nepali folk art through print as a medium.
Print is a comparatively modern and rarely used art technique in Nepal, and more so when it comes to folk or traditional arts. However, it is one of the most widely used mediums across the world, especially by the younger generation of artists.
By combining folk art and print making, the event aims to draw younger Nepali artists towards the genre. Only when the younger generation can see the potential prospect in folk arts will they pursue it, and print is a fit medium to give them the prospect to multiply their artworks, while making a living out of it.
The programme was inaugurated by Ragini Upadhyay, Chancellor of Nafa. The workshop is being coordinated by artist Sunita Rana, chairperson of Women Artists Group of Nepal.
The event has been organised once before, and after the promising reception the workshop and exhibition is now likely to go annual.
