Actor Prem Subba, who has been involved in theatre and films as an actor for over three decades, is making his directorial debut, with the film Taarebhir, which is all set to hit theatres nationwide next week, on June 16. Taarebhir, according to director Subba, is “action-oriented,” and “feminism-centric,” and is based on a true story.
“The film narrates the story and struggle of a family, with two daughters, and the societal pressure it has to endure,” director Subba said. “The film, which revolves around the two daughters, focuses on the roles of its female characters.” The film features actors Bishnu Chemjong and Rekha Fago in the lead roles.
Prior to this, Chemjong, who is also a singer, starred in two Limbu-language films, Chesung (A Gift) and Lageren Thokla (The Sign of the Land). In Taarebhir, Chemjong portrays the role of a police superintendent. Rekha Fago, a subtitle winner at 2012’s Miss Limbu beauty pageant, who of late was busy in music videos, will portray the role of a snarky college girl.
“Since the film is action-oriented, I actually took martial arts classes for one-and-half years so that I could embody the character,” Fago said. “Judging from the responses the film has garnered from charity shows in Dharan and Damak, I have reckoned that my hard work has come to fruition.”
Alongside Chemjong and Fago, Taarebhir features actors Nabin Karki, Ramesh Singh, Prem Subba, and Manju Shrestha.
