The contest, themed Srijansheel Matritwo ko Utsav (Celebration of Creative Motherhood), invites mothers from around Kathmandu Valley and neighbouring districts for participation, announced the organisers.
The preliminary auditions for the contest will start on May 20. According to the organisers, although designed as a contest, the event will take the form of an extensive two-month long workshop. Namrata KC, founder of Aesthetic Dance Studio and co-ordinator of the event, informed that the preliminary round will seek to encourage mothers who are training or teaching at various dance institutions around the Valley. Moreover, the organisers plan to reach out to others through several audio-visual platforms.
The organisers plan to advance a total of 30 contestants from the preliminary audition rounds; likewise, top 15 contestants from the second round will be led through a Mega Audition round, which will be mentored by noted Nepali choreographers.
“The motive of the contest,” says KC, who is also a dancer and dance instructor, “is not only to pick some talented participants like several reality TV shows do. Our aim is to bring to the fore exceptional talents and in turn motivate and empower them.”
The finale of the contest will be held on June 17 and will be broadcast on TV.
