The series which honours musicians by providing them a platform to perform their own music is now scheduled to be held on the last Friday of the month, as per the English calendar.
The first performance for the new series will see poet and lyricist Dinesh Adhikari at Aarshala in Kalikasthan this Friday, April 28. Lyricist Adhikari has penned songs for singers including Narayan Gopal, Tara Devi to musicians of current generation. The series first started in 2005 with the involvement of poet, singer and music composer Aavash, who performed at Paleti for that whole year. However, the Paleti series as it is today was established in 2006 with an aim to honour veterans of the modern Nepali music.
As the series commenced, it brought together an array of artists who might not have been very popular in Nepali music but still had place at people’s mind and hearts. The series also helped provided platforms for artists from Darjeeling, Sikkim and Bhutan, a platform to perform at Kathmandu.
A total of 41 artists have already performed in Aarshala over the course of nine years. The series had ended in July of 2014 after the performance of father-daughter duo singer and composer Prakash Grurung and his daughter singer Rima Gurung Hoda.
