Baisakhi celebrations to strengthen ties
The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), Embassy of India, Kathmandu marked the Baisakhi and the Nepali New Year on Wednesday, with a host of cultural performances.
The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), Embassy of India, Kathmandu marked the Baisakhi and the Nepali New Year on Wednesday, with a host of cultural performances. Themed Colours of the Northern and Southern States of India, the show saw a 12-member troupe from India, led by Kuljeet Singh. The troupe in collaboration with students from the ICC put together various musical and dance performances, in a bid to highlight the cultural similarities the two countries share; Baisakhi and Nepali New Year are marked in various states around India.
Inaugurated by Ambassador of India to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri, the event took place at Rastriya Sabha Griha, in Kamalpokhari.
According to organisers, the celebration was part of their effort towards cementing the common cultural values and strengthening people-to-people contacts between the two neighbours.
“This event will mark fruitful in enhancing mutual appreciation of each other’s culture in days ahead,” said the organisers, issuing a press note.
The visiting Indian Cultural troupes also performed at the Gurdwara Guru Nanak Satsang, Kupondole, on Thursday.
