LASANAA, an artivism organisation, in collaboration with University of the Arts Helsinki and Academy of Fine Arts is hosting a residency for artists from around the world starting May 10. The one-month long residency programme will host 18 artists—five Finnish, one Pakistani, one Bangladeshi, one Indian and ten Nepali—who are writers, journalists, and painters, among others.
Speaking to the Post about the programme, Asmina Ranjit, director of LASANAA, said, “Residency programmes provide artists with an opportunity to connect with other artists as well as learn from them. So, we wanted artists from Nepal and abroad to come together and share their experiences; which are the main motives of this project.” She added, “This residency programme will be like a workshop where artists will teach and learn together. We will have various discussions, trainings, community collaboration and more, over the course of a month.”
As a part of the residency programme, the artists will be travelling to Shipapokhari in Sindupalchowk for two weeks. The artists will be collaborating with locals to promote creative rebuilding process. Ranjit said, “We want to see the situation of Sindupalchowk post earthquake and see the rebuilding process as well and as far as possible guide locals to rebuild artistically.”
