A group of eight Kathmandu-based artists is currently in Dhankuta, painting murals around the city, as part of the Dhankuta Art Project. The walls in the city, which used to be mostly cluttered with posters of movies and slogans of political parties, are now being turned into works of art.
Now, the walls are adorned with paintings of mountains, humans, landscapes and more. The ongoing wall painting around the city is organised by the local Deurali Youth Club. Speaking about the programme, one of the artists, Anil Subba, said, “As art inspires people to be more creative, we are painting these walls in the hope that it will be able to inspire people in the town.”
Bipin Shrestha, secretary of the club, said, “The walls in the cities were getting ugly due to the posters and slogans, so we wanted to clean it as well as do something creative with it.” He added, “As paintings are pleasing to look at and they make the city look beautiful, we decided to do mural paintings.”
The mural painting campaign will go on till next week.
