Singer Ed Sheeran says he is planning to make a movie. The 26-year-old wishes to temporarily move away from the music industry and instead focus his attention on a screenwriter Richard Curtis-style film.

“I really want to make a film that I do the soundtrack for and star in—that’s my next thing,” Sheeran said.

“I look at a film like Notting Hill and I think that’s like a brilliant benchmark, or Once. So if you were to mix Notting Hill with Once, I would say that would be a good start.

“I don’t think I will do an album as a soundtrack, but I will definitely put together a soundtrack with a bunch of my songs on it, but I don’t think it will be an album,” he added.

Sheeran’s new album Divide has been breaking sales and streaming records.

After its release last week, his third studio album made history by selling 232,000 copies on CD and vinyl on its first day.

The previous first-day record was held by David Bowie’s Blackstar, with 143,455.

If that wasn’t enough, Sheeran’s songs are dominating the top 10 midweek chart.

Nine of the songs in the chart are his, joined by Something Just Like This from the Chainsmokers, featuring Coldplay.
