Folk Singer Maya Gurung was honoured for her contribution to folk music by Thadobhaka Lokkala Academy Nepal Lamjung on Friday, amid a function held at Besisahar. Gurung who has worked in the folk music scene for past three decades has sung popular songs including Gaun Sahar ma Lamjung Durbar.

In the ceremony, which coincided with 42nd monthly poetry recitation programme of Antaranga Weekly magazine, Gurung was awarded with a certificate and gifts by chairperson of the Academy and editor of the magazine Navaraj Pahari. Gurung also sang some of her hit numbers like Sailunge Danda Nalmako at the event. The Academy said that Gurung was honoured for her inspirational work in the field of folk music despite the many challenges she has had to face in her life.

Gurung has given voice to more than 200 songs and released 11 albums over the course of her career.
