Jiba Lamichhane’s travel memoir—Sarsarti Sansar—was launched amid a function at Russian Culture Centre, Kathmandu on Saturday,. The anthology, which consists of 29 essays was launched by litterateur, Dhurba Chandra Gautam.
The event moderated by journalist and writer, Devendra Bhattarai witnessed the author discussing about various aspects of the book. Speaking at the event, Lamichhane said, “Sarsarti Sansar is a light-hearted book that encapsulates my individual experiences and feelings invoked by different places I traveled to. I got to travel to various places during the course of my studies and career. So, in this book, I have tried to capture and condense all the memories of the places.” Lamichhane mentioned that the book contains an array of his memories starting from his childhood.
When questioned about lack of mention of issues about migrant workers and various struggles faced by the Nepalis abroad, Lamichhane answered, “These issues and struggles are very cavernous and cannot be simply touched upon in personal travel memoirs. This book speaks of personal journeys that would never do justice to somebody else’s story of struggles.” He further added, “There are many other stories and experiences that has not made it to the book due to the limitations but I have tried my best to include most of them.”
The launch was attended by prominent figures like Hari Bansha Acharya, Madan Krishna Shrestha, Rabindra Singh Mishra, Narayan Wagle, Rookmangud Katawal, and Raamesh Koirala, among others.
