The highly-awaited Nepali feature Teen Ghumti was screened at a charity show at the Ganesh Chitra Mandir on Monday. Based on the 1968 BP Koirala novel, the movie which situates a love affair within the 1950s congress-led democracy movement has been garnering rave reviews from those that have been to its private screenings over the last year.
The crowds that thronged to the screening at Narayangadh were excited to watch the movie, having not had the chance or the inclination to read the book themselves. “I have not read the novel, but I know it is of historic significance. Now having watched the movie, I am amazed by how it is able to transport viewers to the 50s,” said SP Basanta Kunwar. Yambahadur Pariyar, district chairman of CPN (Maoist Centre), who was also present at the screening, lauded the movie’s nuanced cinematography. “The film has portrayed Nepali Congress’ struggle to bring democracy to the country very well. The movie will be very nostalgic to the older generation,” he said.
Directed by Baburam Dhakal, Teen Ghumti stars Garima Panta, Dhurba Dutta and Susantha Karki. The 142-minute-long feature includes three songs by composer Basanta Sapkota.
Speaking to the audience director Dhakal said, “We have had a wonderful reception to the movie
so far.”
The movie will release nationwide on July 1.
