Jenisha Dangol bagged the first prize in the Best Dancer Nepal competition organised by the Sushila Arts Academy, in association with Zest (Tata Motors) and the Russian Centre of Science and Culture. The grand finale, which was held at the Russian Culture Centre on April 3 from 5 to 6:30 pm, saw participation by 10 dancers, who had been selected from all over Nepal.

The competition saw Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala as the guest of honour and Nepali actress Namrataa Shrestha as the chief guest. The panel of judges involved in the finale included well-known Nepali film directors Nischal Basnet and Akash Adhikari as well as Hemant Puranik, Tata Motors’ country manager in Nepal. Similarly, it saw a group dance performance by the finalists and a special performance by Alize Biannic, a ballerina from the Royal Ballet, UK. Biannic was also the chief choreographer of the competition.

Speaking about the competition, Yulia Koirala, principal of the academy, said that she was grateful to have got the opportunity to develop professional dancing in Nepal. She also said that the academy plans to carry on with its aim of providing scholarships and opportunities to talented dancers.

In the competition, Sumnima Sampang stood second, while Glory Thapa came third. The winners and participants were awarded gift vouchers by Being Human, along with scholarships at the academy by Tata Motors.
