Paying homage to the masters
The ongoing exhibition of art works at Siddhartha Art Gallery, Babermahal, brings together a selection of works by 19 different contemporary artists who had graduated from Benares Hindu UnivThe late Karna Narsingh Rana, Kiran Manandhar, Dr Prameesh Adhikari, Sujan Chitrakar, Jasmine Rajbhandari, to name a few, are among the 19 artists whose 38 artworks are being displayed. The collection of works done in various media—acrylic on canvas, gouache painting, etching, bronze, cement, installation and photographs, among others—showcase varied works that touch upon various social agendas.
The SAG in its statement says that in the backdrop of Indian PM’s declaration of the possibility of developing Kathmandu and the Indian city of Benares (formerly known as Varanasi) as sister cities, and given the deep cultural and spiritual bond visible throughout the history between these cities, the current exhibition is an homage to those BHU graduate artists who helped shape the development of contemporary art in Nepal, and thus further enriched this legacy.
