From campus hubs to distant suburbs, a map of where students can live well in the English city without overspending.Post Report
Crookes
Crookes is a suburb about 1.5 miles northwest of Sheffield city centre in South Yorkshire, England. It is well connected to the rest of the city through frequent buses running along Crookes Road and other nearby routes.
Pros
Crookes is only 1.1 miles away from the main University of Sheffield campus. Students can easily attend classes, access libraries, and reach campus facilities without incurring significant transportation costs.
Cons
Because it’s popular with students, competition for rental properties can be strong during peak housing season.
Hillsborough
Located in North-west Sheffield, Hilorough is known for its safe and friendly atmosphere. With open spaces, public libraries, and parks, the area frequently brings communities together.

Pros
Transportation services are well managed by Sheffield Supertram. It is considered a safe area even late at night.
Cons
Popularly known for its football stadium, the area can be noisy for students at times. It can also be hard to find good restaurants.
Walkley
Walkley, known for its historic Victorian character, is a hilly suburb in northwest Sheffield, located between Crookes and Hillsborough. It has narrow, uphill streets offering easy access to Rivelin Valley and Bolehills Park. With considerable local amenities on South Road, the area has good bus links to the city centre.

Pros
Best known for its community library, Walkley offers a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for students.
Cons
Parking can be a problem in the area. A snowstorm is also considered a possible risk factor.
Arbourthorne
Arbourthorne is a residential suburb that lies in the southeast of Sheffield. It is bordered by Norfolk Park and Gleadless Valley. This area has mid-20th-century housing.

Pros
Transportation is accessible in Arbourthorne. Healthcare is facilitated by pharmacies and a few medical centres.
Cons
There are no universities in the immediate residential area, making daily commuting difficult for students living there.
Gleadless
Gleadless is a quiet, welcoming residential suburb located five kilometres southeast of the city centre. It also has open green spaces.

Pros
It is well connected with the Sheffield Supertram and bus routes. The welcoming environment at Gleadless creates a safe space for people.
Cons
Local amenities are not well developed in this area, making it difficult for people to access facilities as in other parts of Sheffield.
